He added that 14 fire tenders, including a turntable ladder (TTL), were immediately dispatched to the scene due to the high-rise nature of the building.

“We promptly sent 14 vehicles, including a turntable ladder, as it’s a high-rise structure. Most of the damage is confined to the stilt floor, while the upper floors have sustained external damage,” the officer said.

The fire has since been brought under control, though firefighting operations are still underway. The cause of the blaze is yet to be determined. Firefighters managed to prevent the flames from spreading and causing more extensive damage. Cooling operations are currently in progress at the site.

One of the residents, Vinod, who lives on the third floor where the fire reportedly began, said his wife and children suffered burn injuries and are receiving treatment at a local hospital.

He added that jewellery purchased for his daughter’s upcoming wedding was among the valuables lost in the incident.

“My dog was trapped inside. My daughter is getting married in a few months, and all the jewellery, gold, and clothes we bought for the wedding are inside,” he said.

Vinod further mentioned that his wife and one of his children sustained burn injuries and remain hospitalised. “We have no idea how the fire started. My home is on the third floor,” he said.

Residents of the apartment complex— inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2020 and home to several Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs — claimed that the fire started when some couches on the stilt floor caught fire after firecrackers burst nearby.

The incident led to thick, black smoke rising from the building, enveloping it in a dark haze that spread across the surrounding area.
